Consentium is the only nationally accredited Building Consent Authority (BCA) in New Zealand. It is a standalone and independent organisation within Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, a Crown entity which focuses on delivering world class public housing and providing people with access to quality, affordable housing choices throughout New Zealand. The final step for Consentium to become an independent, national BCA is to become registered through MBIE. This is expected to occur in December 2020. Once registration is achieved, Consentium will provide building compliance services to Kāinga Ora Construction and Innovation division but sit apart from it and be overseen by a separate governance body.
Consentium will provide Kāinga Ora with building compliance services, including consenting, inspecting, and certification. It will ensure new state homes are of a high quality and meet or exceed New Zealand building standards in terms of design, materials, construction and connections to infrastructure. This will greatly extend the time the homes can meet New Zealand’s need for a diverse mix of public housing. By taking a national approach, Consentium will be able to prioritise Kāinga Ora consents, enabling homes to be built faster and where they are needed most.
Consentium BCA is committed to collaborating with Territorial Authorities to deliver high quality compliance services and to working together to build industry capability throughout New Zealand. The Consentium BCA team is made up of industry specialists who know how to deliver quality compliance services whilst also fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
